Youth Accounts

Empower Youth to Save!

Youth Accounts

As parents, we want to do all we can for our kids, but teaching sensible money habits can sometimes get shortchanged in our fast-paced lives. We encourage kids to open an account, starting with a savings account.

As your child matures, we’ll introduce them to the benefits of a debit card, explain how to use mobile banking, and watch for money scams. By establishing sound financial habits early, we can also help qualify your child for their first auto loan or credit card once they hit adulthood.

Did You Know…

Students who, at an early age, have access to and participate in financial education programs which include real-world financial experiences are more likely to develop long-term positive attitudes about money!

Mom Saving With Children

Share (Savings) Account

It’s never too early to start learning positive money saving habits and a youth savings account with GCAFCU is a great way for children to save and watch their money grow! The minimum balance required is only $5 and there are no monthly service/maintenance fees, putting them on a faster track to save more. Your child will also earn dividends quarterly as long as their balance is over $50.

Young Teens Shopping With Debit Card

Children over the age of 14 are eligible for a Credit Union Visa® Debit Card on active Share Draft (Checking) Accounts. Their debit card can be used for ATM cash withdrawals up to $500.00 and point of purchase up to $1,500.00 per 24-hour period. (These limits reset at 3:00pm daily). The first five cash withdrawals during any one month are free. For each transaction exceeding five in one month you will be charged a $1.00 transaction fee. With a Credit Union Visa® Debit Card, your teen will have access to their account 24/7 anywhere Visa® is accepted giving you peace of mind when they’re out and about.

Scholarships for Graduates

Scholarships

The Grove City Area Federal Credit Union awards scholarships to qualifying students between the ages of 17 and 24 who will be pursuing post-high school education at a college, university, or vocational trade school in the fall of the current year. Applications typically become available online and in office January/February each year and are due back the end of April. Applicants must be a current credit union member in good standing or open an account prior to submitting their scholarship application.

Teen On Computer

Share Draft (Checking) Account

Children learn many financial habits from watching parents or caregivers earn, shop, save, and borrow. Help guide them in the right direction! GCAFCU offers a free checking account; no minimum balance required and no monthly service fees. A checking account is a great way to teach your child how to budget, especially if your child is a teen working his or her first job and you want to help them avoid overdrafts before their next pay day.

Money Growing

Share Certificates

Share Certificates are the perfect way to save money and earn a higher dividend rate at the same time. Share Youth Certificates can be purchased for 6, 12, 18, 24, or 36 months. The first Share Certificate in your child’s account only requires $1,000.00 and others will require $2,000.00. Dividends are calculated monthly and posted to your share savings account on the 1st of each month. They will receive a letter notifying them when their Share Certificates will mature and that the money will be deposited into their share savings account.

Child's Birthday Party

Birthday

We LOVE celebrating our youth members, and what better time than during their birthday? Children typically enjoy recognizing their special day and we do too! First, we will send your child a birthday card in the mail, because what child doesn’t like getting mail? Inside the card, it mentions stopping in at one of our offices for a special gift. Bring your child along with their card to either office and we will give them an age appropriate birthday gift!
